This population graph was chosen because the year of 1950 was the first year that began Indonesia's independence. As this graph illustrates the majority of the population at this time was very young and not many lived to be very old. However this youth may have been the driving force to help the country finally gain their independence from the Japanese Occupation which threatened their life. Nearly five years after the nation's Proclamation of Independence the youth prevailed in this South East Asian nation as they became for the first time truly independent of any form of rule.

One hundred years after the independence of the nation was established by the population consisting of 74.5 million, mostly youths, the population of the Archipelago nation reaches its peak. However as the population graph shows by this time the youth will no longer be the majority in this nation, but with the advances of the nation, as in shown in the growth of other industrial nations, the middle ages will become the majority. This will be the result of a lowering in the number of children per woman, as well as the broadening in healthcare allowing for those who are afflicted by diseases to be cured and live a longer life.
The country of Indonesia has many islands that are inhabited by a diverse make up of indigenous groups as well as immigrants. The population is focused in the larger islands with vast resources including Java and Sumatra. Oil was one of the most important resources to the people of Indonesia for a very long time that is why so many settled around the areas where oil is vast. Although the majority of the population is found in the capital city of Java thousands of islands are inhabited because so many indigenous groups are able to be self sustaining based on their environment and as long as they are not threatened by outside sources or natural disasters they will continue to live. However one major issue for the many settlements in the archipelago is the fact that earthquakes and tsunamis can destroy the region and with so many indigenous groups living outside of the technologically advanced cities which have buildings that can provide some protection for residents many have lost lives because of the choice of settlement.
